Champagne is wine — and should be treated as fine wine.

The shape and volume of a glass help determine how much room a wine has to unfold. Its opening and sides influence how aromas gather and how precisely we perceive them.
Fine Champagne is about more than its visible mousse. Complex grower Champagnes deserve a well-proportioned wine glass that allows their aromas to develop.
gives the wine room to open aromatically
gathers aromas without constraining the Champagne
treats Champagne first as wine — not just sparkling wine

Zalto developed the Balance for wines defined by structure: wines whose tension and equilibrium are shaped by phenolics, tannins, extended lees ageing or a deliberate use of oak.
These include complex sparkling wines with longer lees ageing and oxidative elements. This is where the thinking behind the glass meets many of the Champagnes I select for Champagner Max: characterful, vinous wines made to reveal themselves with time in the glass.
Zalto glasses are not offered at launch.

I have used the Balance for Champagne myself and compared it with other glass shapes. It gives the often vinous, characterful grower Champagnes in my range the space I want them to have — for aroma, precision and the sense of treating Champagne as fine wine.
For me, this is precisely where the balance lies: a glass that reveals structure, tension and maturity without drawing attention to itself.
I do not want to recommend ten different glasses. I want to recommend one I genuinely believe in.
A nucleation point is a tiny, deliberately created spot inside the glass where carbon dioxide bubbles can form. This produces a visible stream of bubbles rising from a single point.
For Champagner Max, I deliberately chose a version of the Balance with a nucleation point.
Zalto comes from Austria; the Denk’Art series is closely associated with Austrian wine culture and Hans Denk. The first series appeared in 2004, guided by the idea that the glass should serve the clearest possible expression of the wine.
The Balance takes that thinking further for structured wines. For me, it is a natural Austrian connection: a glass rooted in a rich culture of wine and food, for distinctive Champagnes from small houses.

The Zalto Denk’Art Balance is mouth-blown and handmade. It is dishwasher-safe and made without added lead.
Three cuvées from the selection whose extended lees ageing, amphora ageing or deliberate use of oak make their connection with the Balance particularly clear.
The right glass is not an end in itself. It should help the Champagne express its own character more clearly.
